Spotted on Long Lost Lake - The American Bittern is one of the most elusive and fascinating birds in North America—a master of camouflage and stealth. When alarmed or trying to avoid detection, it points its bill straight up, aligning its body vertically to mimic the reeds—a trick that works so well, people can walk right past without ever noticing it.
Its yellow eyes, thick neck, and dagger-like bill give it a slightly prehistoric look, and its slow, deliberate movements only add to the mystique.
